Dr. David Jones is a leading voice for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and a highly respected and sought-after diversity consultant, speaker, executive and community leader. He is also a member of the Black Speakers Network, Teaching Faculty member for the Equity Institute at the University of Southern California Race and Equity Center and Co-Director and Co-Founder for the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators Ujima Institute.

Dr. Jones has delivered more than 200 educational sessions, workshops, trainings or keynotes for conferences, colleges and universities, corporations, non-profit organizations, public service employees and elected government officials. The recipient of numerous regional and national awards, Dr. Jones was previously recognized by the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators, the leading association of the student affairs profession, with the Doris Ching Award for Excellence as a Student Affairs Professional. He has been featured on media outlets such as The Big Ten Network, Higher Ed Live Network Student Affairs Live Show and Inclusion in Progress Podcast.

As a community leader, Dr. Jones is the Chairperson for The Human Relations Commission in the Office of Mayor Robert Parisi in West Orange, New Jersey, Member-At-Large for the Board of Trustees at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, a committee member for the West Orange School District Diversity, Equity and Access Board and an active member for the Kappa Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha.

The son of a father who was born and raised in the segregated south, Dr. Jones’ family and personal story influences his commitment to addressing and dismantling systemic inequities and oppression. Through all of his contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion, Dr. Jones’ work is always centered on a quote by activist and scholar, Dr. Angela Davis, where she says “I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.” Dr. Jones firmly believes we cannot accept the mistreatment and disenfranchisement others experience, particularly those who have been historically marginalized by an unjust society and system– that we must come together across our differences to get into “good trouble” and create change today for a better tomorrow. He challenges those he comes in contact with to learn more about one another, accept one another and unify against injustice. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Jones lives in a suburb of New York City with his wife, Dr. Stephanie Laudone Jones, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the City University of New York Borough of Manhattan Community College and their three children, Jacob, Sophia and Natalia.
