Closing Ceremony-6/15/10
Celebrating the GENTS accomplishments and recognizing their dedication. This is an opportunity to have an informal conversation with participants about the past year's activity. Awards were presented to the graduating seniors and certificate of completion will be destributed to the GENTS.

ALPHAS AGAINST AIDS - 5/19/10
The Brothers of Kappa Xi Lambda in conjunction with the Delta Rho Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha held The Alphas Against AIDS Program at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church located at 259 Washington Avenue in Brooklyn in an effort to educate and advocate for our communities. The Connection Committee of Delta Rho Omega had a desire to focus on this issue that gravely affects our community and over the past few years the incidents of HIV has risen exceptionally high among women of color. At their 2009 North Atlantic Regional Conference, a resolution was passed to support a focus on this issue. Two years ago, Delta Rho Omega Chapter joined with Senator Kevin Parker to promote awareness about the spreading and prevention of this disease.

Think Black-5/16/10
A Wall Street Alphas' annual landmark event which supports the GENTS programming as well provides an opportunity for supporters to interact with the GENTS directly. Seniors who will be graduating in the spring will be showcased at this reception. GENTS will have a part in the ceremony by having their stories shared with the reception attendees as well as receive award letters for their collegiate book scholarships.

Choosing a Career-5/16/10
The disclosure of the GENTS stating they want to become professional athletes and careers that are extremely specialized, this workshop was introduced. Students will talk about how we come to the conclusion of choosing a career, exploring factors such as media, life's experience, family influence . GENTS took a career assessment test and answered relevant information to better prepare them for their career of choice. In addition, GENTS will be required to answer information such as education, income, skills, salary associated with their choice of career.

The Uncrushable Egg-4/17/10
In a team environment and using only the materials provided, teams will compete to build the best device to protect an egg during a fall. The eggs are expected to withstand various drops that have been established by the commitee. Brothers served as group leaders. The core skills reinforced during the session included but not limited to developing critical thinking skills, teamwork and leadership.

Project Alpha-3/13/10
Health community educator lead informational on how to engage in safer sex. In this dealogue topics covered will include contraception, venereal diseases, teen pregnancy AIDS and abstinence. The next half of the day included a 4 on 4 basketball tournament that included presentations to the winning team, MVP, and all around scholar. Brothers served as team coaches, referees, score keeper and stats keeper

Marvelous Marketing Masterpiece-2/13/10
The GENTS were paired off in teams to develop a new product inspired by items from various publications. Groups were charged with creating a product, jingle and commerical to help promote. In addition, the GENTS had to present to a panel of judges on a pre-established criteria (creativity, practicality, attractiveness).

Who Ya Wit?-1/16/10
The intent of the of this workshop is to the help the Alpha GENTS with their understanding of organizational behaviors and structure. Topical information was preseented about Alpha Phi Alpha and infromation was shared about the brothers and laying down the overall foundation of the orgainization.

NBA Draft-12/19/09
The NBA has just fired NBA Commissioner David Stern and is looking for a new team of commissioners to run and operate the entire league. You will have a team that will presentyour ideas to the Board of Directores to decide who will be the next NBA Commissioner? Teams will have to address certain issues like: Attendance, Public Relations, Marketing and International. Once the groups identify their rules, they will need to present their ideas to an Alpha Board of Directors to see which team will win a prize

College Tour - UCONN-10/31/09
This experience allowed the GENTS to visit the University of Connecticut to gain a first-hand experience to college life, connection with current college students (Greeks) and hear their narratives and chance to experience other areas beyond NYC.

Critical Thinking-11/14/09
Through hip hop music this workshop presenters were to examine the lyrics and decipher information that the writer is conveying. Using the same skills derived from the activity GENTS were encouraged to examine text and other classroom readings to better understand their academic work.

Kaplan SAT Prep-10/10/09
Kaplan Testing Center agreed in host 6 (six) 3-hour tutorials on how to better prepare for ther SAT exam. Presenters pointed out techniques and strategies on how to navigate the standardized test. At the conclusion of the session, students were given a mock SAT exam and tips were offered by the presenter.

Study Skills-9/12/09
Too often we hear that inner city students are not academically prepared but we never address their fundamental needs of knowing how to study. This workshop is designed to equip GENTS with the necessary tools to excel in high school. As such, the presenter covered topics such as time management , study skills and critical thinking.

Think Black comes to Brooklyn -11/19/08
The Wall Street Alphas hosted their most ambitious and successful event to date, "Think Black" at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn to raise money for the Wall Street Alphas Charitable Foundation. This black tie event attended by over 200 guests featured live entertainment, a full course meal, a silent auction, and honorees saluted for their work in the community.

Historical Black Colleges and Universities College Fair -11/15/08
The Alpha G.E.N.T.S. attended the 22nd Annual HBCU Fair at Riverbank State Park hosted by the National Urban League, in partnership with the Children's Aid Society, Riverbank State Park, and the New York Urban League's Young Professionals. KXL brothers worked with the young men to help gather information about opportunities for higher education at the HBCU's.

Election Day -11/4/08
Kappa Xi Lambda and the rest of America went out to vote for the 44th President of the United States of America. Senator Barack Hussein Obama from Illinois was elected the first black President of the United States.

Ronald McDonald House's MNF with the NY Giants - 10/20/08
Some of the Alpha G.E.N.T.S. attended Ronald McDonald House's Monday Night Football with the NY Giants where they were able to meet the Super Bowl Champs, get autographs, participate in fun activities, and have dinner.

Alpha G.E.N.T.S. participate in "Goal Setting 101" - 10/18/08
The Brothers met with the young men at MTV Networks to focus on creating an action plan in achieving 3 goals each student decided he would like to achieve for the year. The Brothers worked with the students that they were paired with for the September – June fraternal year.

The Wall Street Brothers get together after work - 10/03/08
Closing out a long work week the Brothers got together to reestablish the fraternal bond at Katra Lounge for Happy Hour.

KXL hosts 'A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People' in Harlem, NY - 9/21/2008
Kappa Xi Lambda (KXL), Gamma Iota Lambda (GIL) and Alpha Gamma Lambda (AGL) chapters are partnering together to host A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People voter registration drive at the African-American Day Parade in Harlem, NY.

Alpha G.E.N.T.S. begins its 2008-2009 programs -9/20/08
The kickoff of the fraternal year and the new Alpha G.E.N.T.S. program incorporating the new students from the Lower Manhattan High Schools took place on September 20 at the National Urban League. Education Chair Plemmie Lawson discussed the details of the G.E.N.T.S. program with students and parents and facilitated the forming of mentor/mentee relationships to last throughout the year.

'Think Black' Scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2008 - 8/6/2008
The second annual Think Black charitable event will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Steiner Studios at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This year's focus is Education and the Alpha G.E.N.T.S. program.

Bro. Herman "Skip" Mason is Elected 33rd General President - 7/19/2008
Alpha Brother Herman "Skip" Mason was announced as the 33rd General President elect. His term of office will be Jan 2009 - Dec 2012. Mason is a resident of Atlanta GA and currently serves as the Interim vice president of student services at Morehouse College.

Zeta Eta Chapter is rechartered - 4/26/08
Zeta Eta undergraduate Chapter was rechartered in downtown Manhattan at NYU and Pace University with Spring 2008 initiates Bros. Kevin Powell and Giovanni Gallaread. The April 26 party, "The Comeback", raised awareness about the return of Alpha to these college campuses.
